Manoeuvrability and movement of heavy energy equipment project

February 22, 2021

INITIAL SITUACTION

A multinational firm with a great penetration in the renewable and clean energy sector, proposed us a challenge. The challenge, was to solve the problems they had regarding the maneuverability of their heavy duty energy equipment. These energy equipments, before, were built in, incorporating a standard directional lock which made them weak and cause them to fail.

One of the requirements of the client was that the platforms of the equipment had to be moved in a mechanical way with an electric trolley. This requirement made that the movement of the platform had to be in a straight line and not move sideways. This meant that the effort required to move the platform was bigger and the standard directional locks were not enough.

Our engineers of the R&D department, understood the prior problem and discovered that by creating a special mechanism of directional lock this could be solved, and all that would follow the requirements of the client.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

The solution that was suggested was to develop a new break and new directional system. This was done within our HLG Series.

In this case a special directional lock was welded to the side of the fork, allowing the lateral lock to be safer, stronger and more accessible for the workers to operate the trolley/platform. The sturdiness of this modification made it so the wheel could be actioned in two different positions (every 180º), which made it safer for the workers to use it.

With this solution more safety and manoeuvrability where accomplished. Increasing not only the quality of the wheel but also making it easier to operate the trolley/platform.

The results of this challenge where so positive that this solution was implemented in a global way in all of their heavy duty energy equipment worldwide.
